Position Overview
The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, security, and backup of MSSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and Postgre databases. The role involves managing database access, security, and backup procedures, as well as creating disaster recovery plans. The administrator will also support database design and development and communicate and collaborate with management and end users on problem resolution.
Essential Job Functions
- Manage and administer the organization’s databases, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize queries to enhance system efficiency.
- Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access controls, authentication, and encryption.
- Perform regular backups and implement recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams across departments to analyze data requirements and design database solutions that meet business needs.
- Develop and maintain data standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and data integrity.
- Troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions in a timely manner.
- Provide technical support and guidance to end users, resolving database-related inquiries and issues.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest database technologies and trends, and make recommendations for system enhancements and improvements.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate databases with other systems and applications.
- Document database design, configurations, and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and maintain system documentation.
- Participate in database capacity planning and scalability initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of database management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, and their principles.
- Proficiency in database administration, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Solid understanding of database security concepts and best practices.
- Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting database issues.
- Familiarity with backup and recovery processes and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with complex data structures.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and end users.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) are a plus.
