What is Handshake?

Handshake is your connection to your next internship or your next job opportunity, on island or abroad. Using Handshake, students are able to find curated career opportunities at all levels, from paid internships, temporary, seasonal jobs, and full-time positions that match their interests and their careers.

How to Sign Up

1. Go to uog.joinhandshake.com or download the Handshake app to your phone.
2. Click on “I’m a Student or Alumni”, enter your student email (gotritons.uog.edu), and confirm your email.
3. Create your personalized profile to get personalized job information.
4. Start exploring!


How To’s

Completing your Handshake profile is important because it is your invitation to potential employers. In that brief moment, you have an opportunity to persuade companies to get a sense of who you are; when you have a complete student profile, you increase that chance. Additionally, completing your student profile makes it easier for Handshake’s system to better understand you so that it makes relevant recommendations to jobs that align to your career goals and interests.

You can upload several documents onto your Handshake profile such as a resume, a cover letter, letter of recommendations, and other documents (unofficial transcripts, writing samples, portfolios, etc.). These documents give potential employers a first impression of your educational and professional side.

The most notable feature of Handshake is gaining the ability to search for jobs that are tailored to your profile! Of course, before you do a job search and begin applying for positions, you want to make sure that your Handshake profile is completed and that you have uploaded the necessary documents, like a resume and a cover letter (see the previous tabs to learn more).
