Interview Preparation
The interview an opportunity where you get to learn more about the company and the position that you’re interviewing for. On the employer’s side, it’s a chance for them to get to know the person behind the resume.
- Do the prep work. Research the company, get to know their values and mission statement, and find ways to align your experiences with the company’s goals.
- Arrive on site 10 to 15 minutes before your interview. This gives you a chance to check in and find out what room you will need to go to for the interview. Plus, this will lessen an added stress factor and give you the opportunity to recenter and refocus before you start.
- Breathe and think before you respond. Try to avoid the rapid-fire or rambling during the interview. If you come across a question that requires a little more processing on your end, you can avoid awkward pauses or silence by simply saying, “That’s a great question. Let me think about that for a second.”
- Keep your STARs in your pocket. Remember that STAR stands for Situation-Task-Action-Results.
- Always Follow Up. End on a positive note by sending your interviewers a thank you email.
